What is a VRF System?
VRF (Variable Refrigerant Flow) systems provide heating and cooling, but what sets them apart is their capability to manipulate how much refrigerant is used in one zone vs. another. This provides up to 50% energy savings compared to the traditional RTU or VAV systems, because instead of either cooling or heating the entirety of a large space, you are able to set specific zones at varying temperatures. VRF systems are also unique in their ability to run a zone in heat-mode, while providing air conditioning in another zone simultaneously.
